Photography & Genealogy

Another passion of mine is My family history.........The majority of these photos are of cemetery headstones...all family.  Headstones; after many years become extinct...meaning they become non-readable.....Over the years the details either get distorted from the weather, or from moss and other plants growing over them...Some cemeteries are left to nature...as there are no family members surviving to tender and care for them....If you have old headstones that you know about, and can get to them, I recommend taking photos of them for future generations to discover.....It will be greatly appreciated.

The first black n white photos are of hubby's family back in Polperro...The property is called 'Crumplehorn'; when migrating to Australia in 1857 the family continued the name Crumplehorn, naming their property where they settled in Wahgunyah, Victoria..Another brother who settled in a near-by town named his property 'Polperro'.

Take photos of where your family is resting.....before its too late.

  2. It is a very important job, recording your family history...also very time consuming...but most of all, very rewarding.

  3. Love the photos Narelle, especially the old ones from Polperro. I love genealogy too and as I'm active on forums and such and have lists of names out on the internet, I've had perfect strangers email me photos of headstones that they took that happen to be my family. One of the projects underway in the UK is for people to take photos of headstones in churchyards and then submit them to a website for everyone to see. Like you say, they don't last and people don't realise.

  4. Hi Brenda....there is a cemetery not far from here that I am thinking of documenting...it seems I can not find any information on it...so I think it will be a worthwhile project....Someone in the future may want a photo of a headstone in that cemetery....I love the generosity of strangers with the same interests......I like to give back with projects I have been involved in...I too have received grave photos from strangers over long distances...and without their help, I would never have these photos.
