WELCOME to my BLOG

Hi there!

I’m slowly working towards some simplicity within the home, but hey! It’s a lot of hard work!

I love having a go at growing my own veges and always use herbs fresh from my garden. I try to plant from seed whenever I can and have learnt to save and share my own seed for the following year. I make Award Winning preserves and pickles; and my husband brews Award Winning boutique beers as well. I love to stockpile and try to limit quick trips to the shops. I dabble in bread making and enjoy making my own stocks too.

I enjoy feeding my family good hearty meals, nothing like those tiny restaurant stacks you have to look for on the plate. My husband maintains our vehicles and machinery and we both enjoy fabricating on a small scale mostly relying on metal & timber recyclers for any materials needed.

While I don’t always have time to reply to comments, I love reading them. I hope you enjoy your stay and I hope you learn something new because I love sharing what I learn, and I'm always looking for another new skill myself.

Cheers!

Happy 1st Birthday to Just Like My Nan Made

Has it been 12 months already? Wow, what a wonderful year it has been. I've been blessed to get to know many incredible people along the way and look forward to meeting some in person this year. I have met some of you, but hope to meet more this year. It's like catching up with old friends. I love all the comments and feedback I receive. Although I don't always have time to answer them individually, it gives me great joy to read them back to my family too.

Seeing I need to make a visit to the post office for the garlic give-away...I thought I might as well add another give-away to celebrate my blog's first birthday!

All you need to do to be in the running for this give-away is to be a follower. If your not one already, sign up and tell me which post you have enjoyed the best, and why! I enjoy feedback, but would also like to know what others would like to see more of. If you have a good idea for a post...let me know and I will see what I can do.

I love my book so much, that when I seen one in an op-shop I had to share it with you......

ALL FOLLOWERS ARE ABLE TO JOIN IN ON THIS ONE,
I WILL SEND OVERSEAS IF YOU WIN!!

  2. Oh yay! I'd have liked to join the other one but figured that it wouldn't be allowed. I will join too as soon as I can find the right button :) I have been reading here for ages but don't often have anything useful to add. I should cure that lurking habit I suppose.

  3. Happy first birthday to your blog! If I was to pick the one post that I liked the most I couldn't for it is a series of posts - your Gardening 101's. As you have posted so much information that I feel as though I was there too.

  10. Congratulations and Happy Blogiversary, Nellymary!

I have been impressed and informed by so many of your posts, and always by your comfortable writing style and lovely photographs...choosing just one "favorite post" is impossible!

But the one that had the biggest immediate impact in my house is probably the citrus cleanser! Thanks so much :)

  19. Happy 1st birthday to JLMNM. I particularly like the garden ones posts. However, I have to say citrus cleaner is the one that has had the most impact in my house. The soup starter has been made and used here to. Looking forward to the next twelve months.

  20. Happy 1st blog birthday Narelle, congratulations on a fantastic year of posts and many more years to come. So many favorite posts and hints to choose from, but the Herb and Garlic Mix (which my 84 year old mum now adores), and all the wonderful gardening hints from your Gardening 101 would have to be two of my/our favorites. :-)

  22. Happy Birthday Narelle and Congratulations. I have learned so much from your posts that it's difficult to pick a favorite. I love all of the information about diary kefir and make mine everyday now. I've even been able to pass it along to friends at school. I also really enjoy hearing stories about your mother and the rest of your family. Take care and have a lovely 1st birthday.

  28. Hi I am so glad I found your blog a few months ago. I commented at the beginning of the year and mentioned that my father was losing independence well he passed away on the 29th of january. We also lost my Auntie in Australia on the 22nd of December so it has been a terrible year so far. I just wanted to tell you that coming back to the blog after the trauma- Dad's cancer diagnosis only 9 days before he died and his funeral last Friday, is restoring a sense of normality for me and is a great help. Thank you so much for all the work and effort you are putting in. It is certainly one of the very best blogs around- congratulations!

  29. With all the posts and information on your blog Narelle I can't believe it's only been a year. May you have many more to come.
My favourite post is so hard to pick, I love the universal herb and garlic mix, but I also love the Rhubarb Champagne. The other things I really love is the list of plants growing in your garden - I used think I don't grow much in my garden but when I listed it like that there was more there than I thought. Also I love the 'to do' list, I think it puts things in perspective and gives you a sense of achievement when thing are quite going to plan:)

  31. I have only just started reading through your blog and it's a lovely way to while away the Winter days. (I'm in England).
My favorite has to be your citrus cleanser.
It's amazing and I use it on everything.
You made me laugh when you said you could use it as a salad dressing too.
    How thrifty is that!!
    Happy birthday too xx
