WELCOME to my BLOG

Hi there!

I’m slowly working towards some simplicity within the home, but hey! It’s a lot of hard work!

I love having a go at growing my own veges and always use herbs fresh from my garden. I try to plant from seed whenever I can and have learnt to save and share my own seed for the following year. I make Award Winning preserves and pickles; and my husband brews Award Winning boutique beers as well. I love to stockpile and try to limit quick trips to the shops. I dabble in bread making and enjoy making my own stocks too.

I enjoy feeding my family good hearty meals, nothing like those tiny restaurant stacks you have to look for on the plate. My husband maintains our vehicles and machinery and we both enjoy fabricating on a small scale mostly relying on metal & timber recyclers for any materials needed.

While I don’t always have time to reply to comments, I love reading them. I hope you enjoy your stay and I hope you learn something new because I love sharing what I learn, and I'm always looking for another new skill myself.

Cheers!

Challenges #1 & 2 _Oven & Washing Machine

I recently wrote about a challenge I set myself....You can join in too if you like...each week I am going to set myself a challenge, which will improve my road to a cleaner house.....Sometimes there will be more than one challenge in a week, so I hope you can keep up...lol.......sometimes the challenges may be related to other things besides cleaning...as I just know that having a weekly challenge on cleaning will be a challenge in itself...lol........

Challenge #1 - Cleaning your oven
Today I also wrote about cleaning my oven....while it's not 100% yet...I will keep working on it....But for today, I need things to do standing up...as the old hip will complain if I get down there in the oven again today....

So here is my next challenge, which I will tackle today......

Challenge #2 - Cleaning your washing machine
I took a photo of my washing machine yesterday....while I'm not proud of the state of it, I knew that you would appreciate my honesty in sharing a photo with you.....I have yet to clean this one, so there is no photo before and after yet...but there will be shortly....
For now....here is a photo of my yucky washing machine....I don't enjoy lifting that centre piece out, I just know it's going to be slimy................

As I used the machine last night for a soak....I better get that load finished first before tackling this challenge.....
If you would like to join in....leave a comment and a link on what your upto...What is your first challenge going to be? Is it the washing machine or the oven?

  1. Well, I cleaned the outside of my washing machine recently--does that count?! As it is located in a screened in outside room in which the previous owners used to grow orchids, it can get pretty dusty. Now, to clean the inside.....hmmmm

I'll defrost my freezer-frig next week with the help of Primrose (see below). I can't BELIEVE that we did not buy a frost-free freezer-frig 21 years ago. And wouldn't you know it, other appliances have packed up but this one keeps going strong. The ice is really getting thick now!

I'm very spoiled over here in South Africa as I have a maid (named Primrose--we love her). She recently cleaned my oven. Thank you Primrose. (Right now she's behind me doing the dusting! Shhh!) As I work part-time teaching outside our home, she is a real life-saver. Comes every Monday & Thursday. We clean our house over her 3-week Christmas holidays, but otherwise she does all of the routine cleaning.

Of course we could easily do all of our own cleaning, but I like that we are giving her employment esp as she is supporting a number of family members. She is a widow in her 40's and sadly, her two grown children died within the last two years and she is supporting her 6 yr old granddaughter as well as her sister & nieces & nephews.
