WELCOME to my BLOG

Hi there!

I’m slowly working towards some simplicity within the home, but hey! It’s a lot of hard work!

I love having a go at growing my own veges and always use herbs fresh from my garden. I try to plant from seed whenever I can and have learnt to save and share my own seed for the following year. I make Award Winning preserves and pickles; and my husband brews Award Winning boutique beers as well. I love to stockpile and try to limit quick trips to the shops. I dabble in bread making and enjoy making my own stocks too.

I enjoy feeding my family good hearty meals, nothing like those tiny restaurant stacks you have to look for on the plate. My husband maintains our vehicles and machinery and we both enjoy fabricating on a small scale mostly relying on metal & timber recyclers for any materials needed.

While I don’t always have time to reply to comments, I love reading them. I hope you enjoy your stay and I hope you learn something new because I love sharing what I learn, and I'm always looking for another new skill myself.

Cheers!

In the original post, I said the following:......................

The give-away for 10 lucky readers....

*The best comment will receive a clove of the garlic to use however you wish....(maybe pop it in the ground, or use it in cooking)...

The lucky winner of the clove of garlic is...

*Tracey and Tribe - Congratulations Tracey!!

*I will also choose 9 more comments to send some seed to....This give-away is only offered to Australian residents though..and I will need to check what states I can send it to....So, sorry to those who aren't eligible...I'd still like to hear from you too.....

The lucky winners of the garlic seeds are......

I checked on the seed today, and it's still drying, although should be good to send shortly......

By the time I receive everyone's addresses, it should be fine to send on!

Could all the winners send me an email,

  3. Hi Narelle, Boohoo ...not a winner...
Congratulations every one who were winners...
I was wondering as I would really love some of those elephant garlic seeds to grow some, would you consider selling me some or maybe I could do an exchange for some thing else, I have lots of other organic seeds I could do a trade with. I'll email you.

  4. Garlic seed is almost always sterile, so I probably wouldn't bother if I were you.

Garlic is grown by planting sprouted cloves.

  5. Congrats to all the winners....I've been told by my gardening teacher that you CAN grow garlic from seed...and on further investigation I have found that you may need an extra year to produce a bulb of cloves. The first year might produce little tiny single bulbs that that have no cloves....I do remember seeing many of these in the ground when digging up the wild bulbs, so maybe the ones I dug up are in their 2nd year and have produced a BULB of garlic.
If mine produce a tiny one the first year, I will pull them up and plant them the following year...
Either way, it never hurts to have a try and I enjoy giving others the chance to do the same.
