WELCOME to my BLOG

Hi there!

I’m slowly working towards some simplicity within the home, but hey! It’s a lot of hard work!

I love having a go at growing my own veges and always use herbs fresh from my garden. I try to plant from seed whenever I can and have learnt to save and share my own seed for the following year. I make Award Winning preserves and pickles; and my husband brews Award Winning boutique beers as well. I love to stockpile and try to limit quick trips to the shops. I dabble in bread making and enjoy making my own stocks too.

I enjoy feeding my family good hearty meals, nothing like those tiny restaurant stacks you have to look for on the plate. My husband maintains our vehicles and machinery and we both enjoy fabricating on a small scale mostly relying on metal & timber recyclers for any materials needed.

While I don’t always have time to reply to comments, I love reading them. I hope you enjoy your stay and I hope you learn something new because I love sharing what I learn, and I'm always looking for another new skill myself.

Cheers!

BIRTHDAY CAKE with 4 ingredients

Baking - This is my take on the chocolate log recipe, I shortened it even more....

For a printable copy go to ..........http://www.docstoc.com/docs/document-preview.aspx?doc_id=71459077

I use it as a dessert and for our birthday cakes.

D19 and L16 have told me that when they do birthday invitations, their friends ask if I will be doing that cake that I always make....nice compliments from teenagers, especially when they keep coming back for thirds and fourths...

THE RECIPE
1 X 600ml thickened cream
2 heaped dessert spoons of Chocolate Quick powder
1 Nestle Peppermint Crisp
1 pkt of sweet biscuits– Triple Choc  OR Choc Chip with Macadamia - (You may use any of your favourite biscuits, I sometimes use a different one each time I make this recipe)

1.         Whip Cream and Chocolate Quick until thickened.
2.         Use the cream to join the biscuits together to form a log.
3.         Completely cover the log with chocolate cream.
4.         Chop up a Peppermint Crisp & sprinkle on top of log.
5.         Leave overnight in fridge for biscuits to soften, its ok not to cover it.

Use this recipe to make any size cake you need, just keep adding, remember 1 packet of biscuits to 1 bottle of cream.
(The pictures used 4 to 5 mixtures)

  1. Hi Nelly marry ,boy that recipe is an old one our neighbour many years ago used to make the chocolate log with chocolate biscuits and sweetened cream I think she used to put a little alcohol in the cream and spread between the biscuits and over the top, very quick and easy and no baking, thanks for the reminder, that was about 40 years ago,I'm really showing my age.lol
